DJ Lighting

DJ Lighting is a very specialized for of lighting used in pubs and clubs. They are normally designed to entertain your eyes while the music is entertaining your ears.

If you ever been out to have a drink I'm sure you have seen at least a few of these first hand. Lets look at some of these from the different ages:

Disco ball, mirror ball, glitter ball, or whatever you want to call them

These are a styrofoam ball with small segments of mirror glued over them, a small motor to turn the ball and a spotlight to shine on the ball. The ball is normally suspended from the roof with a spotlight shines on it's mirrored surfaces reflects hundreds of beams over the crowds heads. These first emerged in the 1920's and have been around ever since.

Laser Lighting

As you approach the club or rave scene more and more of these show up. Laser lights produce very fancy patterns and are often used in conjunction with smoke machines so that their pattern can be seen through the entire room rather than just showing up on the roof or wall.

Dance floor lights

Made famous by the movie "Saturday Night Fever", the disco dance floor is made of translucent colored squares with lights behind each square. The lights turn on and off to pre-programmed patterns to entertain the dancers.

Strobe lights

Strobe lights produce very bright flashes of light over and over again. With all the other lights off the produce an almost slow motion effect as the eye only gets to see when the light flashes and missed the motion while the light is off. While these are fun you need to be careful with them as they can trigger epilepsy.
