Kitchen Lighting

Kitchens are a fun lighting project. There are is a clear list tasks that you do in the kitchen and a clear place where each of those tasks need to be performed. It is however tricky with water, fire and other hazards. Traditionally people have had had only one or two lights on the ceiling but today's designer realize that there are some places you can't have shadows. With boiling water, hot pans, sharp knifes, the kitchen is one of the most dangerous places so you do need to see what you are doing.

And as you are preparing food, you want to make sure it looks right, fresh, cooked or however it should look, so white kitchen lights are pretty important. For these reasons downlights have become a popular addition to most kitchens.

The Kitchen Sink

The trap that most people fall into is place a nice downlight to shine in the sink and forgetting that they will be standing in front of the sink, perhaps blocking the light. When you have light for the sink, make sure it will still work if your using it.

The Stove

They also normally have a light in them so you can see what your cooking. This solves your problem but make sure you check out the light before you buy your range hood and get a good one.

The Kitchen Bench Tops

For these you do have a few options. If you don't have over head cupboards then down lights are great. kitchen lighting underbench downlightThey are very cheap and are often adjustable, so if once installed you find you actually spend more time in a spot where you didn't expect you can move them to the new spot.

If you do have overhead cupboards then downlights down work quite so well. The best option is concealed strip lights under the cupboards. You can get small downlights but their coverage is only about 70cm so you need many of them to cover the whole kitchen.
