Lighting by Area

Your home, office and pretty much everywhere you visit is divided into separate functional interlinked spaces. When lighting each area you need to take into account the tasks that will be performed in the room and the atmosphere you want to achieve. You also want a smooth transition from one area to the next to make sure you don't stun or disorientate.

There is never any right or wrong but here is some good rules
  • Avoid glare, disorienting and extreme contrasts
  • Task Lighting: Focus light exactly where you need it
  • Focused Lighting: Be clear in your where you want people to look and focus on
  • Functional Lighting: Make sure you give the right information at thew right time, eg lighting the edge of a path when someone walks past a sensor
